Leucojum aestivum ‘Gravetye Giant’, also known as the summer snowflake, is a graceful, bulbous perennial that brings a touch of elegance to spring gardens. Taller and more robust than the species, this cultivar bears nodding, bell-shaped white flowers, each petal tipped with a fresh green dot. Blooming in mid to late spring, it resembles a taller snowdrop and thrives in damper conditions where many other bulbs struggle. Named after Gravetye Manor, the home of famed gardener William Robinson.

  • Height: 40–60cm
  • Spread: 20–30cm

Plant bulbs in autumn, 10–15cm deep, in moist but well-drained soil. Best in sun or partial shade. Leucojum is tolerant of heavier, clay soils and enjoys the moisture of stream banks or damp borders, though it will perform well in ordinary garden conditions. Once established, it’s low maintenance and long-lived. Allow foliage to die back naturally after flowering to feed the bulbs for the following year.

Excellent for naturalising in grass, damp meadows, or woodland edges. Plant in drifts for a graceful, natural look or dot through borders with other spring bulbs like Narcissus ‘Thalia’, Camassia, or Brunnera macrophylla. Also works beautifully in containers when planted in groups and allowed to gently arch over the edges.
